Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14! Shake up the traditional dinner-and-a-movie date night. We’re fortunate to live in a town often referred to as “the ultimate playground for adults”—where there is no shortage of adventures and exciting outings to make your Valentine’s Day extra special. Plus, sharing a passion with your significant other—whether it’s cooking, painting, or skydiving—is a great way to keep your relationship strong! Here are our top picks for Valentine’s Day date night ideas in Boulder.
Explore the Great Outdoors
Spend the day with your honey hiking one of Boulder’s most popular trails: Mount Sanitas. It’s a challenging 3.1-mile hike, so bring plenty of water and a hearty packed lunch. It will be well worth the effort once you’re enjoying the stellar view at the top overlooking all of Boulder Valley.
Another great option for outdoor adventurers is Chautauqua Park. Even in February, the green meadows and iconic Flatiron mountains are the ideal background for your Valentine’s Day date. Break a sweat on one of Chautauqua’s many trails, including to the First and Second Flatiron, to the top of Flagstaff Mountain, or the Royal Arch (another challenging hike). We’re sure you’ll work up an appetite, so plan to stop by the Chautauqua Dining Hall post-hike for a cozy and romantic meal.
Show your sweetie a view of Boulder that most don’t get to see—from the sky. On your private glider ride, you and your loved one will sit in the front seat of a double glider plane, with your pilot seated behind you. With no engine noise, you’ll be able to relax and take in an unobstructed view of the beautiful mountains west of Boulder and snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide. You’ll truly feel like you’re flying like a bird—and you may even spot a red-tailed hawk or a golden eagle beside you in the skies!
Serious thrill-seeking couples will love skydiving! Mile-Hi Skydiving Center, based in Longmont, has been around since 1995 and is the top-ranked skydiving facility in the state. If you’re a first-timer, they offer tandem jumps where you and your spouse will each jump with a nationally licensed tandem instructor from 18,000 feet above sea level. After a thrilling 130 mile-per-hour freefall, you’ll gently float to the ground upon the release of your parachute. Be sure to take advantage of their video and photo packages so you can relive the action together at home!
For the Valentine’s traditionalist, the day isn’t complete without chocolate. Piece, Love, & Chocolate is the perfect place to end (or begin!) the night. Known for their truffles (made with beer from Boulder’s microbreweries!), cakes, and hot chocolate, you can indulge your sweet tooth in their cozy indoor eating area or outside on the patio. A word to the wise: avoid waiting in a line out the door by calling and placing your order earlier in the day.
Take your love for chocolate (and each other) a step further by attending a chocolate baking class or booking a private workshop to learn the tricks of the trade.
If you’re in doubt of what to get your significant other, keep in mind that many shops keep wish lists for their customers. Subtly ask your partner to update the wish list on file at his/her favorite store, and you’re guaranteed to get them something they’ll love.
Whether you’re looking for a laid-back way to spend time together or a full-on adrenaline rush this Valentine’s Day, Boulder’s got you covered. We hope you and your honey have a wonderful time celebrating. Share your plans with us in the comments below!
