Uber is coming to Boulder, Colorado!

For any readers who may be unaware, Uber is a relatively new transportation network company. It is accessed through your mobile phone, connecting you with Uber Drivers. All you need is an Uber account and a linked credit card to use the service. The app connects drivers and riders with the push of a button—you let the app know where you are and when you need the ride and Uber takes care of the rest!

The biggest news of all, however, is that Uber has recently spread up the U.S. 36 corridor to include the Boulder area. “Boulder is such a unique market in that it’s so progressive, so on the cutting-edge. People live close to where they play, but on the other end, that makes it more challenging for a company like Uber to connect rides. . . .It’s definitely a challenging market, but one we definitely want to participate in.” says Denver’s General Manager, Will McCollum.

Uber is evolving the way the world moves. They’re making private transportation accessible and affordable for everyone in over 100 cities worldwide. In fact, Uber is so popular that they are now valued at over $3.5 billion and are operating in more than 35 countries around the globe.

Since launching in 2009, Uber has taken hold of on-demand private transportation with their popular app, which allows people to summon a private car with a simple tap of their fingers. In addition to regular cars, a wide assortment of specific vehicles are available for request, including: Uber taxis, high-end black sedans, SUVs, and luxury cars.

What Uber Has to Offer:

Convenient Payment – No cash changes hands, you are charged through your credit card; it’s that simple. The app provides clear pricing information, letting you enter your pick-up and drop-off locations and getting a fare quote before having to commit to the ride. You can even split the fare with a friend, across multiple Uber accounts.
Reliable Pickups – When a driver has been chosen for your ride, you can track their progress inreal-time and receive a text message when they arrive. The driver’s name and details will appear on your mobile device, so you can check them out before getting into their car.
Driver Reviews – Uber Drivers are guaranteed to be licensed and insured, Uber qualified, and favorably reviewed by your fellow riders.

Uber is currently offering $10-worth of free rides. Simply download the app onto your Apple or Android mobile device and use the promotional code “9lomu”. Use it to request your very first ride and see just how easy and convenient Uber can be. Base fares for the Boulder/Denver areas start at just $2.14 with a minimum fare of $5.70. Updated note: this promotional code is no longer applicable.

There are a few drivers in Boulder already but Uber needs more to really get this off the ground. Do you know someone who likes to drive, is at least 23 years old, and has a 2004 or newer 4-door car?
