Memorial Day Weekend in Boulder, Colorado 2014

There’s no place in this country that’s quite like Boulder, Colorado; we believe that every day calls for a celebration.  Memorial Day is no exception to this rule.  From the Boulder Creek Fest to the Bolder Boulder 10K, our beautiful town certainly knows how to celebrate Memorial Day.

Boulder Creek Fest – May 24th – 26th

Boulder’s annual Creek Festival has been one of Boulder’s most prided celebrations for over twenty-five years.  It serves as a tribute to the start of summer, as a melting pot for the most eclectic arts, crafts, and music that Colorado has to offer.  From kid-friendly events like the traditional duck race, to live bands and delicious local food, the Creek Fest has it all.

The festival kicks off on Saturday, the 24th, and with no admission charge, who wouldn’t want to attend?  It’s located right in the heart of downtown Boulder, along the creek path, which means it will be impossible to miss.  Over 500 vendors will be displaying their unique arts, crafts, and health alternatives throughout 9 different event areas.

From each of these areas, visitors will be able to see and hear the performances taking place on one of the four performance stages.   There will also be carnival rides – and lots of them.  Rumor has it that there will even be a Ferris wheel.

Can you think of a better way to spend Memorial Day Weekend?  Whether you’re a family of four, or a college student just looking for something to do, there’s no better place to spend the weekend or the actual Memorial Day holiday, we guarantee it.

Bolder Boulder – May 26th

The Bolder Boulder has been called America’s all-time best 10-K by Runner’s World.  It’s a race that athletes from all corners of Colorado train for, year round.  It’s a race that marks the start of summer here in Boulder.  But mostly, it’s a race that brings people together.  It just happens to also be on Memorial Day!

One of the more unique aspects of the Bolder Boulder is its wave start.    This method allows trained, competitive athletes, as well as those simply participating, to enjoy the experience, to all run the same race.  The first thirty-one waves will take off between 6:55am and 9:30am, followed by waves of ‘unqualified’ racers.  The international Team Challenge will begin at 11:13 a.m. for women, followed by the men’s at 11:24 a.m.

Only the first thirty-one start waves require proof of qualification, meaning that anyone can take part in the following waves.   That being said, the qualification test for the Bolder Boulder is only a 2-mile treadmill test, and that should be easy as pie for many Boulderites!

This event is about so much more than just the running.  It’s a day that brings friends and fellow spirits together from all parts of Colorado.  The pre and post-race expos, live bands at every quarter mile, and overwhelming selection of food and drink make the Bolder Boulder feel more like a festival and far less like an agonizing race.  The best part is, it’s not too late to register!  If you’ve been toying with the idea, simply click here to confirm your spot for the race on Memorial Day.

There really doesn’t seem to be a better place to spend your Memorial Day Weekend.  With a weekend-long festival, and a 10K that’s more like a party than a race, who would want to be anywhere else?  Once again, Boulder is proving why it’s the best place to be.
