Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday this year, so you can expect to see plenty of festivities through the weekend of May 2nd to May 4th.  Here are some activities to keep in mind as your weekend warms up to that much-loved Latin American celebration:

2014 Boulder Lifestyle Kentucky Derby Party

Hosted in the heart of Downtown Boulder at the historic Mapleton Hill Estate, the 2014 Boulder Lifestyle Kentucky Derby Party’s features include premium mint juleps and a variety of Kentucky’s favorite cuisines prepared for you by Oak at Fourteenth.  If mint is not your flavor, check out the award-winning ales offered by Fate Brewing Company or sample the Prosecco, compliments of The Boulder Wine Merchant.  We are also very excited to announce that entertainment for the 2014 Boulder Lifestyle Kentucky Derby Party will be provided by The Grant Farm.  For Boulder’s car enthusiasts, exotic cars from Lamborghini and Maserati will be on display.  This party really does offer something for everyone!

An Evening with Zoe Keating at Boulder Theater

May 3, 2014 at 8:00pm (doors open at 7:00pm)

Boulder Theater will be hosting Zoe Keating for a night of music and fun on the Saturday before Cinco de Mayo.  Zoe creates compelling sounds by combining the intricate melodies of the cello with interesting computer-generated effects.  Her one-woman orchestra style promises to give you a unique Saturday night experience.  Book your tickets online or by calling the box office at 303.786.7030.

1st Sunday Kids’ Concert Series

May 4, 2014 and the first Sunday of every month at 4:30pm

Jeff and Paige take a creative approach to bringing science and nature to the lives of children.  By delighting kids with live music and exciting stories, they are able to deliver valuable messages in a playful manner.

The First Sunday Kids’ Concert Series will be held at the Bohemian Biergarten at 2017 13th Street, beginning at 4:30pm.  This is an interactive event, so be ready to participate in the fun!  There’s no need to book your tickets in advance.  Admission is $3 per person (regardless of age) and is paid at the door.

Street-Style Tacos, a One-Day Workshop

May 5, 2014 at 5:30pm

Join Chef Carlos Ruiz and the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts for a hands-on Cinco de Mayo experience.  Learn to make robust and flavorful tacos with that South American flair we all know and love.  As always, they will be using only the freshest ingredients from your favorite local organic farmers.  For more information, call 303.494.7988 or book your tickets online.

27th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival

May 3-4, 2014 between the hours of 10:00am and 8:00pm

If you find yourself in Denver this weekend, you can’t miss the city’s annual Cinco de Mayo Festival.  This weekend-long event is held at Civic Center Park in downtown Denver.  It begins with the “Celebrate Culture” parade and includes live music, a taco eating contest, a green chili cook off, and amateur boxing.  This event is held as a benefit for NEWSED, an organization that helps low-to-moderate income families by connecting them with affordable housing and providing low cost business services.  Learn more by clicking here.
