Last-Minute Charity Opportunities in Boulder, Colorado

In this season to be jolly, it’s not always easy to remember to give. We’re often busy planning, shopping, baking, and decking the halls and what not. But, for the patronage procrastinator there’s good news: plenty of charities will gladly accept last minute gifts.

What these gifts entail is up to you. Some people opt to donate money; others opt to donate items. Whatever you’re offering, a few of the places worth considering include:

Goodwill: Clean out your closets! Donating to places like Goodwill offers dual benefits. Not only does it provide you the chance to do something for the community (and write-off your generosity on your taxes), but it gives you a chance to declutter your home. The holidays are a perfect time to do this: donate the items you no longer use to make room for the new.

Genesis Donations: Do you have gently used baby items you no longer need? Genesis Donations will take them off your hands. This organization accepts any new or nearly new baby items (cribs, changing tables, clothes) suitable for children from birth to three years old. They also accept safety equipment (like door latches or outlet covers), as well as diapers. They accept car seats, too (as long as they’re new).

Community Food Share: The goal of the Community Food Share is to end hunger in Boulder and Broomfield counties. You can help by donating money (one dollar provides three meals) or by donating food.  They accept loads in all sizes, from a single can to a caravan.

Coal Creek Meals on Wheels: The mission of this organization is to “provide daily nutritious meals and related support services to members of our community in need, helping them to live with dignity in their own homes.” They are the only organization in East Boulder and Southwest Weld County to deliver nutritiously-balanced meals to homebound residents.

The Nature Conservancy: If you’re an environmentalist, consider a monetary donation to the Nature Conservancy. For over 50 years, this organization has worked to protect the lands and waters of Colorado. They offer the option of a one-time donation, a membership, or donation as a gift.

Donating to charity isn’t something that requires oodles of planning. This list is just a sample of the organizations willing to take any type of gift, last minute or not. Have a few favorites in mind that you’d like to share? Please do so in the comments below. Happy Holidays!
