With the holidays finally over, January is a month for rest, relaxation, and new beginnings.  There are plenty of interesting events happening this month, so why not try something new for a change?  Do something daring, like jumping into arctic waters in the name of charity.  Discover the art of local cuisine or do a cleanse for the first time.  Laugh off your holiday weight at a stand-up comedy show.  It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done it before…just give it a try!  After all, that’s what new beginnings are for, right?

Boulder Polar Plunge

Boulder’s chilliest tradition is back again for the 31st year in a row!  Do you have what it takes to jump into bone chilling waters?  Hey, it might be a great way to cure that New Year’s hangover.  The Boulder Country AIDS Project and connectBCAP are putting on this year’s plunge.  Each person who registers to jump can set up his or her own fundraising page.  All donations will go to the Boulder Country AIDS project.  800 locals are expected to take the leap; will you be one of them?

 Istituto Frasca Per Il Vino

If you’ve ever wanted to become more knowledgeable about wine, you’re in luck.  Boulder’s Frasca Food and Wine is holding a mini-series of educational wine tastings this winter.  The tastings will be hosted by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and taught in an interactive setting.  Guests can expect to indulge in hand selected flights of wine as they learn all about the wines they are sampling.  To learn more about these exciting, informative tastings, call or stop by Frasca.

Boulder Philharmonic: Three B’s

Rachel Barton Pine will be accompanying the Boulder Philharmonic for Berg’s unforgettable Violin Concerto written in honor of Alma Mahler’s daughter.  Bach enthusiasts should definitely grab tickets while they can, as the concerto is heavily influenced by Bach chorale.  Smaller pieces by Bach and Mahler will be performed both before and after the concerto.  Come alone or bring the family, this is an evening that all will enjoy.

The Conscious Cleanse 

It’s a new year, full of new beginnings.  What better way to begin a new year than by cleansing your mind, body, and soul?  This cleanse includes support coaching, a manual, and teleseminars to guide you through the process.  Through yoga, cleansing, conscious eating, and series of seminars, your body and mind will be thoroughly rejuvenated by the end of the month.

Legendary artists Chick Corea and Bela Fleck will bring their musical talents to Macky Auditorium for an evening filled with jazz, bluegrass, blues, country and classical sounds.  While the concert doesn’t start until 8:00pm, preconcert conversations with John Davis will be held at 6:45pm in room 102, inside the Macky Building.
