Indoor Weekend Activities Around Boulder, Colorado

While Colorado boasts a variety of outdoor, winter-time activities, sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the cold weather and have some fun indoors. Fortunately, Boulder has a wide variety of activities to spice up these long winter days. Retreat from inclement weather with these local, inside activities.

Reality Garage

Experience virtual reality right off Pearl Street at Boulder’s Reality Garage. Backed by an international team of filmmakers, artists and engineers, Realty Garage uses augmented reality to raise awareness for wildlife conservation, help museums share their mission, and promote ecotourism. If you’ve never had the opportunity to experience virtual reality, this is the place to do it. From outdoor adventures that will take you up mountain peaks, to overland safaris that bring you up close and personal with Africa’s most famous of inhabitants, Reality Garage provides the tools to take you on an exciting, new adventure.

Fiske Planetarium

Whether you’re interested in the Alaskan Wilderness, Lady Gaga, or Black Holes, the Fiske Planetarium has something for every fascination. Engulf the senses in the Planetarium’s 65-foot-diameter dome – the largest between Chicago and L.A. Missing nature’s light show? The dome theater’s new MegaStar projector shows 10 million stars and the Milky Way in its indoor night sky.

Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse

Stepping into this teahouse, visitors are transported to a Middle Eastern museum of rich colors, ornate carvings, and a traditional tea service. Imported from Tajikistan piece by piece, this building is one of Boulder’s most interesting architectural establishments. Additionally, white linens, scrumptious dishes, and a variety of teas make this spot perfect for an afternoon break. To really get into the spirit of the tea house, check out Dushanbe’s list of tea etiquette and superstitions.

The Spa at St Julien

There’s a reason this spa wins ‘best of’ awards year after year. This exclusive establishment offers a variety of high-end packages, including Swedish massage, body scrubs and wraps, deep cleaning facials and peels, and luxury manicures that use only the finest of products. Beat the dry winter weather by treating yourself and your skin at this famous Boulder spa.

Enigma Escape Room

Don’t be fooled – this is not your typical cheap thrills escape room. Enigma Escape Room has created a myriad of experiences that cater to armchair detectives, puzzle enthusiasts, and newcomers alike. Enigma’s stories and sets are authentically and thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in each experience. With games like ‘The Start Up’ and ‘Mad Scientist’ that put problem solvers in what look like 1950’s living rooms and mod-70’s style offices – this company is leagues ahead of the average escape room.

Tea Tour at Celestial Seasonings

What’s better than getting an insider glimpse at a product many of us use daily? Celestial Seasonings is an internationally recognized brand manufactured right here in Boulder. Guests will learn everything about tea on this 45-minute tour. From its history in society, to its agricultural production, you’ll know the ins and outs of this industry by the time you leave Celestial Seasonings.

Sommers-Bausch Observatory Open House

Every Friday night, the Sommers-Bausch Observatory opens its doors to the public. Stargaze with CU Boulder’s Astronomy students and staff through tripod mounted binoculars and a variety of telescopes set up on the outer deck. You’ll get the chance to learn a thing or two about the night sky and see the moon from a new angle.

There’s plenty to do and see within our small mountain haven. Any of these activities will give you the chance to experience something new, learn about our world, and connect with the local community.
