Bathroom Makeover in 5 Easy Steps

A bathroom is a sanctuary.  It’s a place for relaxation, soothing bubble baths, and a moment of peace.  The problem with many bathrooms is that they’re just too drab.  An ugly bathroom makes you want to get out of there as soon as possible.  But hope is on the horizon.  Redecorating a bathroom is easier than you can imagine, and here’s how to do it.

Hang up a Stylish Mirror

Mirrors can be really boring. Replacing your uninteresting mirror with a stylishly framed one can drastically improve the appearance of your bathroom.   It’s an incredibly easy change to make, and can be done in a matter of hours.

There are lots of styles to choose form: Oval, rectangular, framed, frameless…this list goes on.  Be sure to compare the style of your mirror with the vanity, sink, and walls.  If you’ve chosen funky wallpaper for your bathroom, for instance, it’s better to stick with a frameless option.

If your walls are more neutral, go crazy with the mirror.  Select one with a chunky frame, perhaps wooden, or stainless steel, depending on your vanity and sink.  For a more toned- down look, a contemporary mirror will still add flair.

Have Fun With Tile

Tile is a great way to add much needed style to your bathroom walls, and you can do it yourself.  Tile an entire wall if you want, or simply accent the vanity.  Either way, it’s a simple, crafty way to jazz up your bathroom.

With regards to size, shape, material and color, there is a variety choose from. Glass tiles look especially nice as a backsplash around the sink.  Porcelain tiles are best used in the shower, due to their inability to absorb water.

Shelving and Storage

Shelves and medicine cabinets are often the most unattractive elements in a bathroom.  Luckily, replacing them is a breeze.

Much of the bathroom shelving available at stores is wooden, or made of plywood, which is very convenient for painting and personalizing.  Glass shelves, on the other hand, are very stylish these days.  Their crisp, clean look blends gently into the walls of a bathroom, giving them a minimalist charm.  Alternatively, metal wall shelves are more striking, and can provide a little more character.

Paint Those Walls

Painting is always a fun home improvement project to take on.  It’s also one of the least complicated ways to customize your bathroom.  Pick one color to use throughout, or make each wall a different color – you can go as crazy as you want.  Why not go as far as painting a mural?

If your goal is to create a relaxing, serene space, opt for gentle tones. If you’re aiming to make more of a lasting impression, feel free to go crazy with the colors.  It is wise to avoid using dark tones, as they’ll make the already small space feel even more cramped.

Accessorize

Accessories are an easy way to spice up a drab bathroom.  Decorative boxes and glass jars are great ways to add some functional pizzazz.  Even a new set of towels can make a significant difference.  Be smart with your accessorizing, however; you don’t want to overcrowd your bathroom.

Now, Get To It!

So what are you waiting for?  Remodeling your bathroom is very doable!  All it takes is some vision, a few how-to guides, and a solid helping of creative energy.  It’s also a great first project for anyone looking to become more hands-on with their home.  Whether you’re determined to add a small improvement, or want to completely revamp, there’s no reason to hesitate.
