August 2013 Events in Boulder

August is shaping up to be a month of culture, music, and entertainment in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Kicking off the month is the annual Colorado Music Festival, followed by the Colorado Brazil Fest and a myriad of other concerts and cultural events. Needless to say, there will be no cases of ennui this month.

Colorado Music Festival

Time for Three
• When: Thursday August 1st
• Where: Chautauqua Auditorium
• Tickets: $12 – $48
A Boulder favorite, Time for Three’s music combines classical, country-western gypsy and jazz, creating their own sound, unlike any other.

Colorado Music Festival Chamber Orchestra
• When: Sunday August 4th
• Where: Chautauqua Auditorium
• Tickets: $12 – $48
Conductor Courtney Lewis, along with Calin Lupanu on the violin will grace the auditorium with pieces by Beethoven, Mozart, and Schreker.

Elephant Revival accompanied by members of the Colorado Festival Orchestra
• When: Tuesday, August 6th
• Where: Chautauqua Auditorium
• Tickets: $15 – $45

This colorful trio is not to be missed. Gypsy, folk, country, rock, and alternative rock heavily influence the eclectic sounds of this Nederland-based band. And, for the first time ever, Elephant Revival will be playing with members of the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.

Festival Finale
• When: Thursday August 8th and Friday August 9th
• Where: Chautauqua Auditorium
• Tickets: $12 – $48
The two-day finale will feature Alexa Still on the flute, and musical pieces by Kristin Kuster, Corigliano, and Shostakovich.

Colorado Brazil FestAugust Events in Boulder, CO

Bossa Nova and Brazilian Jazz Concert
• When: Thursday August 1st
• Where: eTown Hall
• Tickets: $15
Join legendary performers Mitchell Long, Alfred Muro, the Dexter Payne Group, and other special guests for an evening of Brazilian culture and music. A silent auction will be held at 5:00 pm, and performances will begin at 7:00 pm.

Samba Parade
• When: Friday August 2nd
• Where: Pearl Street Mall
Bring the family down to Pearl Street Mall for the annual Samba Parade featuring traditional Brazilian music and dances. The event is free and promises to be an evening to remember. Following the parade is the Choro and Forro Dance night at Shine restaurant.

Festival Finale
• When: Saturday August 3rd & Sunday August 4th
• Where: Boulder Theater
• Tickets: $18
This two-night finale will feature free samba dance lessons, three different bands, and special guest Mitchell Long. Bring your friends and head over to the Boulder Theater for an unforgettable night of dancing, music, and laughter. Did I mention Brazilian Reggae?

Buddhist Geeks Conference 2013
• When: Monday August 19th
• Where: University Memorial Center at CU-Boulder
Dharma meets tech at this one-of-a-kind conference. This is one of the only meetings in the world where Buddhism, technology, and global culture are intertwined and discussed in roundtable discussions, TED style talks and Keynote Addresses. Buying tickets in advance is highly recommended, as they will likely sell out fast.

 Rocks Lineup
As always, the August lineup for Red Rocks is looking hot. While some of the shows have already sold out, there are still plenty to choose from. For a full list of concerts, visit the Red Rocks website. A summer favorite, Yoga on the Rocks, is happening all month long.

Yoga on the Rocks
• When: Every Saturday This month, at 7:00 am
• Tickets: $10 drop in fee
Start your weekends with a refreshing, outdoor yoga session in one of the most beautiful places in the world. No reservations or tickets are required for this event, but it is recommended that you bring your own yoga mat.

As you can see, Boulder is full of cultural events this month. Bring the kids or fly solo, and experience all that Boulder has to offer. From Buddhist discussions to musical masterpieces, there is plenty to choose from.
